Every summer, a growing number of KDE contributors meet for their annual conference – Akademy. This year everybody traveled to Tampere in Finland for what was an excellently organized event. Kudos to all the volunteers and the team from COSS!
For us, Akademy is a major opportunity to meet highly skilled Qt users. We love talking to them and hearing their opinions on our work. This time we were represented by 12 Trolls who kept their eyes and ears open 12 hours a day.
Akademy started with two days of conferences sporting 36 presentations. Tracks covered the topics of community, mobile, development, applications, platforms and cloud computing. The venue buzzed with the talk of 400 attendees flocking together in the hallways, around water coolers and the ice cream stand – a very popular spot during very hot Finnish summer days.
Kenny has once again done a tremendous job in recording all the sessions and hunting down people for their slides, all of them will be available on the Akademy website.
After the conference days, people met in about 60 workshops to discuss and develop in small groups. Those are usually incubators for new ideas and concepts and set the direction for the coming months. I am curious to see the results!

I’ve been reading the reports from Akademy on Planet KDE and damn, I so wish I could come to this conference. It appears to be very interesting and extremely fun. Oh well, maybe some day I’ll save enough money to be there. Oh and thanks for all the videos!

Andrej, the KDE e.V. provides financial support for travel to Akademy and sprints for KDE contributors. Maybe you can keep that in mind for next year?
And in case you have not been contributing to KDE yet, there is still plenty of time to get started for next year.
IMPORTANT UPDATE – Cybercom has decided to broaden the scope of the seminar. It will now focus on KDE Plasma in general as opposed to just KDE Plasma mobile.
